- After just one year of attending college, Jim left and went on to work as a human resource manager for the department store Sears.
- In 1955, he enrolled in Earl Shoaff’s direct selling business AbundaVita and worked as a distributor.
- Jim then joined another direct selling company, Nutrio-Bio in 1957 and worked there under the direct mentorship of the company’s founders which included Shoaff.
- By 1960 when Nutri-bio had expanded to Canada, the founders of the company recognized Jim’s competence and appointed him as the vice president of the organization.
- However, Nutri-bio went out of business in the early 1990s and Jim began working as a motivational speaker. His first public seminar was held in 1063, the Beverly Hills Hotel, California.
- Besides his career as a speaker, he also actively participated in the personal development business, Adventures in Achievement, which featured live seminars and conducted personal development workshops.
- In the early 2000s, Jim forayed into audio programs, through which he reached more people.
