Dr. Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi (SP Singh Oberoi) is a Dubai-based business tycoon and a globally recognized philanthropist. He is popularly known as ‘Savior Singh’ for saving the lives of hundreds of Indians, Pakistanis, and Filipinos from death penalties.
SP Singh Oberoi Life-Changing Moment
In 2010, 17 Indian men were sentenced to death in Sharjah, UAE, after being convicted in the group killing of a Pakistani national.
The men were migrant laborers involved in a brawl that escalated tragically.
Dr. SP Singh Oberoi learned of the case and felt compelled to act, deeply disturbed by the prospect of 17 executions for one fatality.
He engaged in negotiations with the victim’s family under Sharia law, which allows for “diya” or blood money as compensation.
Dr. Oberoi personally paid $1 million (approx ₹4.6 crore) to secure pardons for the accused.
As a result, all 17 men were released and returned to India, avoiding execution.
This moment transformed his outlook on life, prompting him to devote his wealth and energy to humanitarian work.
In 2011, he founded the Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, pledging 98% of his income to social welfare.
He has since become known as “Savior Singh” for rescuing many others in similar life-and-death situations.
